Cheesecake finds its origins in Ancient Greece, on the island of Samos. It is said that cheesecake was given to the athletes in the 1st Olympic games, held in 776 BC on the island of Delos, to give energy and strength for the games.
The first known written recipe, in 230 AD, consisted of just flour, wheat, honey and cheese. With the Roman conquest of ancient Greece, cheesecake was spread throughout Europe and finally to the Americas. This is where the craze over cheesecake officially began. Regrettably with time and travel, the original cheesecake recipe evolved from natural and simple to manufactured and complex.
We at Eveia felt inclined to return to ancient Greek origins of cheesecake and yogurt cheese–simple, healthy and delicious. We have recreated an extraordinary dessert using just yogurt cheese, sugar, eggs and pure vanilla. Following these simple values, our cookie crust is also made with basic ingredients.
Using our own yogurt cheese, and not cream cheese (an 1872 invention), our cheesecake has 55% less fat then any other leading brand. Oh yeah–and it isĀ all done naturally, with no starches, gums or gelatin.
Try our cheesecake for yourself and see what getting back to basics tastes like. You will not be disappointed because it is just simply delicious.
